 Zoya Schmuter, M.D., author of

* From Russia with Luck
* We Borrowed Grandchildren for Swiss Vacation
* Tales of a Forensic Pathologist
* Walk of Life

was born, educated and worked in the USSR. After emigration in 1975, she lived and worked as a pathologist in Israel, and later as a medical examiner in the USA. As a foreign graduate, she went through the process of re-training and licensing. For the last twenty two years, she has worked in the Office of Chief Medical Examiner of New York City.

In 2007 she published her first book, the memoir "From Russia with Luck." With her husband, the couple lives in New York. They like spending vacations travelling in Europe; hence the inspiration for her second book.

Dr. Schmuter has retired in 2008. She always thought of publishing selected stories from her professional experience, while periodically giving students a lecture on challenging cases in Forensic Pathology. Her dream came through in 2009 with publication of her third book.

And now, in 2012, comes her fourth book, a collection of stories and essays that explore both conflict and epiphany.
